About me
I was born and raised on a farm. My parents were some of the original ‘do it yourselfers’ (back then it was mostly about being poor). I watched my dad do almost anything around the farm. When I was a teenager, we built a new house on the farm and we did 99% of the work ourselves. I learned how to frame, plumb, do electrical, lay flooring, shingle, paint…everything. It is through that time period that I learned that I could do almost anything with my hands.
When I graduated high school, I took a vocational agriculture course at university, and there I took courses in Rural Electrification and Welding, amongst other practical courses. I intended to go back to the farm.
After this diploma, instead of going back to the farm (times were hard on the farm back then), I went back to university and got my degree.
Married and with a degree and a corporate job, we took a number of job transfers across the country. In each place we bought a house and renovated it ourselves
I have never lost the passion for working with my hands. Building something from nothing, fixing something, making it better. I am now retired from that corporate job, and rather than doing this work after business hours, I can during the day.
